Fitness Friday #4: Snack

Whether your a meat eater, vegetarian or just on the path to eating healthier this quick snack is perfect for anyone! Instead of going for the bag of chips or the ice cream in the freezer, I opted for a bagel with hummus and avacado.

Their are so many benefits from avacados besides tasting great and being the best source for vitamin E (protects against disease) it also helps lower cholesterol and aids in weight control.

I toasted the bagels and then used the hummus as a spread. If you dont like hummus you can substitue it with cream cheese and use half and avacado cut into fours.  Top it off with some black pepper and your snack is ready to eat.

You can always use the other half of the avacado to make a hair mask for healthy and moisturized hair, just add some greek yogurt, coconut oil and an egg with it.  Apply it to damp hair and place a plastic cap over your hair for about 15-20mins. Shampoo and style as normal.

I hope you guys find this helpful and if you try it out let me know!! Oh and sorry about the bite in the bagel lol, I didnt think to take the pic unitl after i had eaten some. :-/

Protective Style Challenge

I hate to say it, but I'm not sure if I cant make it until Feb with only protective styles. As much as I want to complete it, its only week two and Im fresh out of ideas and resorting to top knots and hats is getting boring.

When I started "embracing" my natural hair a little over two years ago I found that wash 'n' gos were the best thing for me.  I tried protective styles every now and then to see what would work best for my hair, but everytime I went back to wash 'n' gos no matter what season it was.  Now before you shake your finger at me and say that the winter months are the harshest for hair because of the lack of moisture in the air, I figured as long as I keep my hair well moisturized and protected some of the time then I'm good...right?

Granted, I know that my hair health could probably exceed expectations if I did properly protect my hair in the colder months, I guess I just need to force myself to remember the benefits and put all else to the side.  I did however start finger detangling my hair and I notice a huge difference in how much less hair comes out as compared to when I detangled in the shower with my Ouidad comb. It does take a while to finger detangle but it def helps in the long run!

I think I just need to find a protective style that looks good and I can get used to because Im a big hair girl. Do you guys have any suggestions for protective hair styles I could use that will help make this challenge a little less challenging?

Is your love big enough?

So this post is long over due seeing as though this show happened nearly three weeks ago, but nevertheless its still worth talking about and sharing :)
For the most part I think Lianne La Havas might be known in the curly girl and natural hair community for her beautiful hair and her amazing music is a great bonus.  I will admit I hadnt listened to her music until shortly before I found that she was coming to Alexandria, I just admired her hair.  My brother on the other hand had been listening to her for quite some time and was being somewhat selfish about sharing her music with me.

A few things....

Happy Monday!!!!

Im in such a great mood today and super excited! Why am I so excited you ask? Well first, its a short work week thank God. Second, Thanksgiving is on thursday and the redskins will play the same day which makes Thanksgiving even more amazing woot woot (die hard fan), and thirdly the blogger app was updated for iPad which made me super excited to write this post. Its the same things in life that make me happy, ya know? Haha

In other news, today officially started the TGHBPSC (thats a mouth full), and it runs until Feb.19th. My protective style for today is a bun or top knot. When Im being lazy and my hair needs to be washed a bun manifests lol, but ill figure out some other styles that i can do for the remainder of the challenge. For more info on the Protective Style Challenge or if you want to join check out TheGoodHairBlog.com.

Lol i def didnt notice my dog being a creep near my arm in the pic lol!

Protective

Hey guys!

Its a gloomy and rainy Tuesday which is kinda making me miss my bed, but nonetheless a pretty good day so far.

My usual hair style is wash and go simply because its just easier for my to maintain and I dnt really have time to redo twist-outs and braid outs everyday. Last friday I was kinda over my wash n gos and decided to switch it up. The plan was to do a flat twist-out and bantu knot the ends to have more bouncy and defined curls. The end result was twisting my front twists back and pinning them all up into a low bun.

Its a great protective style and perfect for those lazy days when you dont feel like doing anything to your hair. I just spray my hair with a moisture spray and put my scarf on.

Im thinking I might take out the twists tomorrow, so if I do I'll def post a pic for you guys :)

Fintess Friday #3

Good Morning guys!! Happy Friday!

We have made it through another school and work week and although there were some things in our week that Im sure did go as planned and lets admit...things could always be worse.  The Presidental Election is finally over and Im glad for two reasons. First those campaign ads were getting all the way under my skin.  It felt like every other commercial was a "Sponsored Message" and I was starting to hate watching tv (not that I watch alot of it anyway.) Second the anxiety I had waiting for the results of the election almost killed me so I just went to sleep lol

This weeks fitness post is pretty simple and incorporates your tv watching. The exercises are pretty standard and seem to include your entire body. I have tried doing this once and it is definitely fun to do and you kind of get excited for the next commercial to see what the next exercise will be. I know 103 reps is alot to do especially if you dont usually workout so I would suggest trying to do it at a time that doesnt have two digits.

If you try it out, let me know how it works out for you!

Get in my closet

Happy Friday!!
How was your week?? I had a 4day weekend because of the storm. I will never complain about time spent at home instead of work so tried to enjoy what I could and keep my mind busy during those extra days off. The last major storm that came through the area a tree fell on my house.  Luckily there was no major damage here in DC this time around but further up north they werent so lucky.  I hope that if you were in the path of Hurricane Sandy that you and your loved ones are well.
During my free time I online 'browsed'. I say browsed because I realize my shopping problem is getting crazy and I'm trying to practice self control haha.  Lets just hope that my efforts can last longer than a week! I stopped on Need Supply Co website to see if they had a sweater that I saw at the store and saw sooo many other pieces that I wanted *sigh*(the trap of online shopping  broswing). So instead of actually buying the items, I just created a collection of some of the things I was lusting over.

What are some things your lusting over? I'm sure we all could give our credit cards a break!
