Fitness Friday #8 | Meditation

This has seriously been thee longest week ever!! Maybe its because we lost an hour but whatever the reason, Thank God its Friday!!

On Sunday I happen to stumble across Oprah's website and saw that she and Deepak Chopra are having a 21 day Meditation challenege focusing on Perfect Health.  The challenge started on Monday and with each day you get a centering thought of the day and a Sanskrit mantra.

Its only day 5 of the challenge so you still have time to sign up (its FREE!) and start centering your thoughts and life on becoming a healthier. Each meditation session is 16 mins long, which im sure everyone has 16mins to spare and at the end you'll have a different outlook on things going on in your life.

You can click on the picture if your interested, I hope you guys try it out! If you do let me know what you think :)

Fitness friday #7 | Homemade granola

Hey guys! Im back with another fitness friday post because I was clearly slipping in February and I thought that this would be a cool recipe to share and easy to make for everyone. Since I dont really like eating greek yogurt without granola and my Trader Joes was out of the kind that I liked I decided to make some.

Its super easy, the ingredients are affordable and it takes about 15-20min (depending on the amount your making) to bake.  Heres what you need:

1. 1 to 1 1/2 cup Rolled oats - I got mine from target but any brand works
2. Nuts whole or sliced
3. 1/4 cup Organic Virgin Coconut Oil
4. 1/4 to 1/2 cup Maple Syrup (depending on amount of mixture)
5. Cinnamon

Preheat oven to 350. In a large bowl mix together dry ingredients (ie: oats, nuts and fruit.) Slowly add in the coconut oil and maple syrup making sure the mixture is coated. Add cinnamon on top and stir in.  Pour the mixture on to a cookie sheet and bake for 15- 20 mins. Let cool for 1 minute. Then enjoy your granola in whatever you want to add it in :)

I added dried cranberries and some vanilla extract at the last minute to my granola mix.

Yummy in my tummy!! lol Try it out and let me know what you think!! What ingredients would you add to your granola mix?

Fitness Friday #6: Energy

Its the first Fitness Friday of the year guys!!! I know with everyones current resolutions taking full effect most people look at their health and want to make it better for the new year, so I hope that this FF post can help aid in your new journey.

With these FF posts I like to alternate between workouts and healthy foods/drinks to give a little bit of change to the series.  Ive always been active and exercised but my eating habits were not as good. Within the past year I have looked at the things that I ate alot closer, not so much for the calorie intake but more so for the nutrional facts like how much sodium was in what I was eating.

You can never go wrong with a homemade smoothie and for early morning risers like myself an extra boost of enegry without a crash is what we need. The smoothie below is really simple to make if you have a blender and the ingredients aren't difficult to find.

I like plain greek yogurt because there is more protein in it. Oh! In case you were wondering Muesli is like granola so you could use that instead :)

If you guys ever have any questions about certain workouts or suggestions as to future fitness friday post feel free to leave a comment and let me know. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Fitness Friday #4: Snack

Whether your a meat eater, vegetarian or just on the path to eating healthier this quick snack is perfect for anyone! Instead of going for the bag of chips or the ice cream in the freezer, I opted for a bagel with hummus and avacado.

Their are so many benefits from avacados besides tasting great and being the best source for vitamin E (protects against disease) it also helps lower cholesterol and aids in weight control.

I toasted the bagels and then used the hummus as a spread. If you dont like hummus you can substitue it with cream cheese and use half and avacado cut into fours.  Top it off with some black pepper and your snack is ready to eat.

You can always use the other half of the avacado to make a hair mask for healthy and moisturized hair, just add some greek yogurt, coconut oil and an egg with it.  Apply it to damp hair and place a plastic cap over your hair for about 15-20mins. Shampoo and style as normal.

I hope you guys find this helpful and if you try it out let me know!! Oh and sorry about the bite in the bagel lol, I didnt think to take the pic unitl after i had eaten some. :-/

fitness friday #2

Happy Friday!! I hope you all had a wonderful and productive week. This cold I have almost got the best of me one day but I made it through and its almost out of my body, Im just waiting to get my voice back totally.

A few weeks ago I did a fitness friday post on a few easy yoga poses that you could do in the morning. This week I wanted to share this post-workout chart that I found, because like many people I was totally clueless about what I should be eating after my workouts.  Usually after my workouts I would always have protein whether I just finished doing cardio or weights, which isnt completely bad but I also wasnt replenishing the fluids that I lost.

I hope this helps for those who arent quite sure what to eat after workouts. I like anything having to deal with exercise and becoming a better and healthier person so if you would like to see more fitness posts on healthy foods and/or exercises just let me know :) Remember always drink water!

Hugs and Love :)

Better Body: You are what you eat

Over the past year or so I have slowly but surely become a very healthy eater with a few bad habits (mainly anything with chocolate, chipotle and a few pepsi's from time to time.) Realizing that I'm not getting any younger and that the food I ate would eventually catch up with me, I needed to make a change. Here are a few and easy ways that can help anyone start to make their eating habits healthier!
