Hair Story

Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped-turned upside down, I'd like to take a minute just sit right there....wait thats not my theme song lol (although it would be cool to have one.) But seriously, this is my hair story and I decided to record it because I really just didnt want to type (lazy moment) and I havent made a video in a long time so I thought it would be a good time to do so.

Hope you enjoy! :)

Protective Style Challenge

I hate to say it, but I'm not sure if I cant make it until Feb with only protective styles. As much as I want to complete it, its only week two and Im fresh out of ideas and resorting to top knots and hats is getting boring.

When I started "embracing" my natural hair a little over two years ago I found that wash 'n' gos were the best thing for me.  I tried protective styles every now and then to see what would work best for my hair, but everytime I went back to wash 'n' gos no matter what season it was.  Now before you shake your finger at me and say that the winter months are the harshest for hair because of the lack of moisture in the air, I figured as long as I keep my hair well moisturized and protected some of the time then I'm good...right?

Granted, I know that my hair health could probably exceed expectations if I did properly protect my hair in the colder months, I guess I just need to force myself to remember the benefits and put all else to the side.  I did however start finger detangling my hair and I notice a huge difference in how much less hair comes out as compared to when I detangled in the shower with my Ouidad comb. It does take a while to finger detangle but it def helps in the long run!

I think I just need to find a protective style that looks good and I can get used to because Im a big hair girl. Do you guys have any suggestions for protective hair styles I could use that will help make this challenge a little less challenging?

A few things....

Happy Monday!!!!

Im in such a great mood today and super excited! Why am I so excited you ask? Well first, its a short work week thank God. Second, Thanksgiving is on thursday and the redskins will play the same day which makes Thanksgiving even more amazing woot woot (die hard fan), and thirdly the blogger app was updated for iPad which made me super excited to write this post. Its the same things in life that make me happy, ya know? Haha

In other news, today officially started the TGHBPSC (thats a mouth full), and it runs until Feb.19th. My protective style for today is a bun or top knot. When Im being lazy and my hair needs to be washed a bun manifests lol, but ill figure out some other styles that i can do for the remainder of the challenge. For more info on the Protective Style Challenge or if you want to join check out TheGoodHairBlog.com.

Lol i def didnt notice my dog being a creep near my arm in the pic lol!

Knotted!!!

Hey guys i havent written a post about my hair and embracing my natural curls in a while! So the long wait is now over and its crazy becuase hair is the one thing that I can talk about all day with no problem haha!

These past few weeks my hair has been staright partly because the weather was really nice and during my trip to San Fran I didnt want to have to worry about always doing something with my curly hair.  Rocked my wash and go Monday and Tuesday and by Wednesday I wanted to change up my hair style.

Bantu Knots came to mind and I had never tried it before so I figured why not? I put about 20 two strand twists in my dry hair and dampened my hair after i finished with the twists. It took about 10mins to knot the twists and then I was ready for bed :)
(Tip: Try not to try something new with your hair in the middle of the week because your not sure how it will turn out lol it culd be horrible; but its always good to take a risk sometimes)

Luckily the outcome of my hair turned out great!! :) Really love how it looks!!

Embracing the Natural...

So its been about a year since I decided to embrace my naturally curly hair I can honestly say that im glad that i did!! My hair was damaged from heat, dry and unhealthy. My curl pattern a year ago was more wavy than curly and extremly frizzy! After trying several products to see what helped my hair and what didnt i have found some great staple products and the search for even better products is never done.

Ive come to the conclusion that my hair was extremely THRISTY! dry wouldnt even be the word to describe it. I had got it into my mind that overly oily hair was bad and i didnt know the difference between that and moisturized hair. Today my curl pattern is amazing...lol... and alot better than it was this time last year!

Happy I made this choice i love my hair more and more every day :)

curls

i think my hair is finally used to being in its natural state either that or its becoming healthier. Whatever it is i love it :) My curl pattern is more defined and it just feels different! Its funny because a year ago i wouldnt go anywhere with my hair naturally curly, now i can barely go a week with straight hair before washing it again and wearing it curly. This newly found acceptance for not only my hair but for myself is an amazing feeling. I took a few pics on Wed when i went to richmond to visit my bro at school. Enjoy!

Natural Hair bloggers

Ive been thinking for a while about acknowledging bloggers that have natural hair whether it be straight, curly, kinky, long, short. Whatever you hair looks like as long as there is not chemical enhancers used i want to acknowledge YOU!!

During the summer i embraced my natural hair which is curly and it felt great! Although i have never used a relaxer or perm in my hair flat ironing it constantly was damage enough and it felt like my hair wasnt growing as long as i wanted it to. Taking care of natural hair isn't always the easiest thing to do but it is def well worth it. I have come across several blogs that have given amazing pointers as o how to take care of your hair and what products to use and not use through experience. Alot of these tips helped me out alot and i figure if i pick a natural hair blogger once a month that i feel has the ability to impact others with their knowledge of natural hair then it will be worth the search!

If you guys have any nominees on who should win this month let me know :)

Hugs & Love!
